What are chemical peels?

A chemical peel is a skin treatment used to improve and smooth your face or bodies skin texture using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to peel off. The new regenerated skin is healthier, smoother, and with less wrinkles than the peeled skin.

Why are there different chemical peels?

Chemical peels are classified by their level of injury to the skin very superficial, light/superficial, light/medium-depth, or deep peels.

Which peel is right for you?

The type of chemical peel and depth of the peel is selected according to the severity of the wrinkling, skin damage, and the patient’s downtime preference.

Very superficial peels can help treat mild skin imperfections. These chemical peels can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and pigmentary irregularities. There is usually no down time and no visible peeling. Very superficial peels can be repeated every 2 weeks. Very superficial peels are recommended for patients first time peel or patients looking for a mild chemical peel treatment.

Superficial light peels can help with mild to moderate skin imperfections. These chemical peels can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne scarring, pigmentation irregularities, and melasma. There is minimal downtime. You can expect mild to moderate peeling lasting 2 to 5 days. Superficial light peels can be repeated every 3-4 weeks.

Medium depth/light peels can help with moderate to severe skin imperfections. These chemical peels can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, post acne marks and scarring, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. There is minimal down time. You can expect moderate peeling lasting 5-7 days. Deep/light peels can be repeated every 4-6 weeks.

How can I prepare to obtain the best results out of my chemical peel?

Discuss with your healthcare professional and follow their advice on skin priming before your chemical peel. It is a required first step to ensuring the best results. It is the most valuable step in your chemical peeling, specially in pigmentation, hyperpigmentation and melasma.
